Library of Congress Discovery Space
The Library of Congress opened a brand new Discovery Space specifically designed for kids and teens to explore, experiment, and have hands-on experiences with interactive exhibits. This is not like a traditional library tour. The space features activities focused on literacy, creativity, and learning through play. Kids can explore exhibits that connect to the Library of Congress collections in ways that feel fresh and engaging. The exhibits change seasonally, so there's always something new to discover. Best of all, it's completely free, and the space was designed with families in mind. Because it requires timed entry and space is limited, you need to reserve your time slot in advance online. The Library of Congress building itself is worth exploring too, so many families spend a couple of hours here and then walk around Capitol Hill.

Parent Tips 💡
- Reserve your timed entry online in advance. Spots fill up, especially on weekends, so book early.
- Plan for about 60 to 90 minutes inside the Discovery Space. That's enough time to experience all the exhibits without rushing.
- Combine with a Capitol Hill visit. You can explore the neighborhood, grab lunch, and see other attractions in the area.
- The exhibits are designed for different age ranges, so there's something for younger and older kids.
- Take the Metro to avoid parking hassles. Capitol Hill parking is sparse and expensive.
