🦁 Animals & Zoos
Kids love animals. These spots have them, and your kids will actually remember the visit.
National Zoo, Pandas & Elephants
Bao Li and Qing Bao are still a draw. We took our kids last June and they didn't want to leave the panda house. Now there's also baby elephant Linh Mai in the Asia Trail.
What to know:
Hours: 6am-8pm (summer). Best age: All ages, but toddlers do better in a stroller. Crowds: Get there by 9am or go after 3pm.

The panda house, the elephant trail, and the Kids' Farm where you can actually touch goats and donkeys.
Getting there:
Woodley Park Metro is right there. Parking on-site is free but fills up fast on weekends.
Parent hack:
Bring a picnic, the zoo food is expensive and mediocre. Pack sandwiches and sit in the shade near the reptile house.
Leesburg Animal Park
Your kids get to feed goats, hold baby animals, and ride ponies. It's chaotic and messy in the best way. $14.95 per person feels reasonable for two hours of hands-on animal time.

Parent hack:
Go on a weekday morning in June before summer camps kick in. It's way less crowded.
