Montgomery County Agricultural Fair
Nine days of fair, August 14 through 22, at the Gaithersburg fairgrounds. The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair is the big one on the Maryland side of the DMV, and this year's theme is 'Barn in the USA.' Kids 11 and under get in free every day, adults pay $18 at the gate or $13.88 if you buy online ahead. The grandstand lineup brings back the crowd-pleasers: Monster Truck Madness, the Red Eye Rodeo, and the demolition derby.
Under all the midway noise, this is still a genuine agricultural fair. The animal barns are extensive: dairy cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, poultry, and the 4-H kids who raised them. If your children have never watched a cow being milked or seen a two-day-old piglet, this is the place. Nine days also means you can pick your moment; weekday mornings feel like a different, calmer event than Saturday night.

Parent Tips 💡
- Buy tickets online before you go. $13.88 online versus $18 at the gate adds up fast for a group of adults. Kids 11 and under are free either way.
- Go on a weekday morning for the barns. The animals are the best part for the under-8 crowd, and the barns are calm and shaded before lunch.
- Grandstand events are loud and late. The derby and monster trucks thrill big kids but run into the evening and are genuinely loud. Ear protection for anyone small.
- Budget the midway separately. Gate admission does not include rides. Look at wristband promotions if your kids plan to ride a lot.
- Nine days means you can skip the worst crowds. Saturday nights are packed. The same fair on a Tuesday morning costs the same and takes half the patience.
- Bring a stroller with big wheels. The fairgrounds mix gravel, grass, and dust. Umbrella strollers struggle here.
