Air & Scare at the Udvar-Hazy Center
The Udvar-Hazy Center turns its hangars into a Halloween event for a single Saturday. Kids can trick-or-treat, make creepy crafts, try spooky science experiments and get photos with Star Wars characters. Admission is free, but there are two things to plan around. Parking costs $15, and the outdoor part of the event needs a free timed ticket you reserve in advance.
The hangars are full of aircraft, which makes a good backdrop for costumes, and the indoor part means rain does not ruin the day. Read the costume rules before you leave home. Halloween masks are allowed outdoors for kids up to age 15, but not indoors. Costume weapons are not allowed anywhere, and neither are real ones, so leave the pirate sword in the car.

Parent Tips 💡
- Reserve the free timed tickets first. The outdoor part needs one. Book before you drive out.
- Check the mask rule. Masks are fine outdoors for kids up to 15, but not inside the hangars. Carry a bag for them.
- Leave costume weapons at home. Toy swords and blasters are not allowed, and real ones are prohibited too.
- Pack a light layer. You will go between hangars and outdoor areas, and late October temperatures swing more than you would expect.
- Bring the $15 for parking. It is the only required cost, so budget for it.
