Great American State Fair
Ferris wheel, carnival rides, food from all 50 states, live music, and hands-on activities on the National Mall. Open daily through July 10. Open until midnight on July 4th.
FIFA World Cup Fan Zone
Big screens on the Mall, live music, food trucks, and soccer activities for kids. Free and open every match day through July 19.
Air & Space Museum: 5 New Galleries
Five galleries reopen for the museum's 50th anniversary. See the Hubble Space Telescope, Skylab, a P-51D Mustang, and the interactive How Things Fly exhibit. Free with timed entry.
Washington Capitals Development Camp
Watch the Caps' top draft picks hit the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. All sessions are free and open to the public. Through July 3.
Vienna Independence Day Celebration
Live music, food trucks, and kids' entertainment at Yeonas Park, with fireworks at 9:30pm. A great alternative to the National Mall crowds. Arrive by 6:30pm for a good spot.
The Playground at the Building Museum
14,000 sq ft indoor playground by Snarkitecture. Climbing walls, basketball hoops, a 100-foot obstacle course, slides, hammocks, and a tot spot. Get timed tickets online.
National Independence Day Parade
Marching bands, military units, giant balloons, and historic floats along Constitution Ave. The route runs from 3rd St to 12th St SW. Arrive early for shaded spots.
National Archives July 4th Celebration
Meet Founding Father reenactors, sign a facsimile of the Declaration of Independence, face painting, and arts and crafts. See the original Declaration inside. Museum open until 10pm through July 5.
Salute to America 250: Fireworks
The largest fireworks display in U.S. history. Over 850,000 effects from the Mall, West Potomac Park, and the Potomac River. Security opens at 1pm. No chairs, coolers, or aerosols allowed inside the perimeter.
Anacostia Park Fireworks
Separate fireworks show at Poplar Point with way fewer crowds than the Mall. If you live in Southeast or want a relaxed fireworks experience with kids, this is your spot.
Mount Vernon: An American Celebration
Meet "George Washington," see a Revolutionary War encampment, and watch daytime fireworks over the Potomac at 1pm. Hot air balloon demo too. $30 adults, $16 kids 6-11, free under 5.
Great Falls 4th of July Celebration
Little Patriots Parade at 8:30am, main parade at 10am, inflatables, face painting, car show, and live music. Fireworks at Turner Farm around 9pm.
Leesburg Independence Day Celebration
Morning parade through historic downtown, then live music from Go Go Gadjet, funnel cakes, tacos, and what locals call the best fireworks in the region. Fireworks at 9:30pm.
Takoma Park 4th of July Parade
A community parade with a small-town, family-first feel. Decorate your bikes and wagons, bring your flags, and enjoy one of the area's most beloved local traditions.
Capital Jewish Museum: Free Family Day
Scavenger hunt with prizes, vintage Legos and Lincoln Logs, photobooth, craft room, and book nook. All ages and backgrounds welcome. Completely free.
Meet Finn the Fox, your kid's new adventure buddy
Finn is a curious little fox who explores real places across DC, Maryland, and Virginia. His first adventure? The National Zoo. 15 coloring pages with a story, interactive prompts, and real animals your kids will recognize from their own visits.

Fairfax Summer Entertainment Series
Free concerts, kids' puppet shows, and outdoor movies at 20 parks across Northern Virginia all summer. Bring a blanket and a picnic.
Friday Night Concerts at Yards Park
Free Friday night music down on the Capitol Riverfront. A local band on the boardwalk, a grassy lawn for picnics, and water features for the kids to run through.
Bison Standing Strong at Natural History Museum
