National Harbor Kids Day on the Plaza
Every Tuesday morning this summer, National Harbor sets up a free Kids Day on the Plaza right by the water. It starts at 10:30am at the waterfront plaza stage and runs through August 25. The lineup rotates week to week: story time and sing-alongs from the county library, dance and music sessions, and meet-and-greets with police officers and firefighters. It's an easy, low-commitment morning out, especially if you have toddlers who need somewhere to burn energy before lunch.
The plaza sits under the Capital Canopy, which gives you shade on hot days and cover if it rains, so the event runs rain or shine. After the activities wrap up, you're right at the waterfront with the carousel, the giant Awakening sculpture kids can climb on, and a view of the Capital Wheel. On Kids Days, the Capital Wheel offers a free kid's ticket with each adult ticket if you want to keep the morning going.

Getting There πΊοΈ
Parent Tips π‘
- Get there a little before 10:30: The plaza fills up close to start time. Arriving 10 minutes early gets you a good spot near the stage where little ones can see.
- Bring a stroller and sunscreen: It's an open waterfront plaza, so shade comes and goes. A stroller helps for the walk from the garage and gives tired toddlers a place to land.
- Build in time for the carousel and Awakening: The activities run about an hour, but the climbable Awakening sculpture and carousel nearby easily fill the rest of the morning.
- Ask about the free Capital Wheel kid ticket: On Kids Days you get one free child ticket with each adult ticket, an easy add-on if the weather's clear.
- Pack water and snacks: There are restaurants on the harbor, but they get busy at lunch. Snacks tide kids over while you decide where to eat.
- Check the weekly theme ahead of time: Each Tuesday is different. The National Harbor site lists what's planned, so you can pick a week that matches your kid's interests.
