Planet Word Sensory Friendly Morning: Halloween Edition
Planet Word is a museum about language, and its sensory friendly mornings are for neurodivergent kids, teens and their families. This Halloween edition is on Sunday, October 25, from 8:30 to 10am, The galleries run with adapted lighting and sound, and you move through at your own pace. Nobody is steering you toward the next exhibit.
Costumes are optional, and anything scary stays at home. Kids can trick-or-treat through the galleries and pick up fidgets, bookmarks and mini books instead of candy. Registered guests get a social narrative and a sensory map ahead of time, which is the part I would read with your kid a day or two before. The museum recommends the program for ages 10 and up, though all ages are welcome. You do need to register.

Parent Tips 💡
- Register first. The program requires it, and the pre-visit materials come to registered guests.
- Read the social narrative together. It walks through what the morning looks like. A day or two ahead is enough.
- Costumes are optional. If your kid wants to dress up, keep it comfortable and non-frightening.
- Plan for 90 minutes. The program runs 8:30 to 10am, so build in a calm breakfast before and a quiet exit after.
- Ask accessibility questions early. The museum lists 202-931-3139 for anything about support or timing.
