The Banana Bowl at Nationals Park
Banana Ball is baseball with the boring parts removed. Two-hour time limit, no walks, batters can steal first, and a ball caught by a fan in the stands counts as an out. If your kid has ever lost interest in the fourth inning of a regular game, this is the version that holds them. The first-ever Banana Bowl is the championship, and all six teams and their casts will be at Nationals Park for it.
One thing to know up front: tickets went out through a lottery rather than a normal on-sale, so getting in may mean resale prices. The other thing is the start time. First pitch is 7pm and the night ends with a full-cast musical number, so a kid who goes to bed at 8 is going to be awake a lot later than that. The whole thing streams free on Disney+ and the Banana Ball YouTube channel, which is a real option for younger families.

Parent Tips 💡
- Check the start time against bedtime honestly: 7pm first pitch, roughly two hours of game, then the closing show. You are looking at a 10pm exit and a later-than-that bedtime. Worth it for some kids, not for others.
- The free stream is a legitimate plan B: Disney+ and YouTube both carry it live. For a five-year-old, watching from the couch in pajamas gets you most of the fun and none of the Metro ride home.
- Explain the rules in the car: Banana Ball rules are genuinely different from baseball. Kids enjoy it more when they know a caught foul ball means an out, because then they are watching for it.
- Bring a glove: Foul balls matter more here than at a regular game, since catching one ends the at-bat. Kids take this very seriously.
- Buy from a verified resale site only: Lottery-allocated tickets attract sketchy resellers. Stick to platforms with buyer guarantees and skip anything sold over social media DMs.
- Pack a layer: Early October nights in DC drop into the 50s by the eighth inning, and the upper deck catches wind off the river.
- Gates usually open well before first pitch: Getting in early gives kids time to walk the concourse and burn energy before they have to sit.
