Littles Bike Ride at Eastern Market
If you have never seen a parade of toddlers on tiny bikes rolling through Capitol Hill with a full police escort, you are missing one of the best sights in DC. Seriously, it is hilarious. My kid could barely keep the balance bike going in a straight line, and there she was, pedaling behind a police motorcycle like she was in the Tour de France. She has never looked more proud of herself.
The Littles Bike Ride is put on by Hill Family Biking every year, and it is specifically designed for the smallest riders, ages 3 to 6. Balance bikes, training wheels, trikes, whatever your kid rolls on, it is all welcome. There are two route options: a short 0.5-mile loop that is perfect for balance bike riders who are still figuring out the whole steering thing, and a longer 1.3-mile route for the more confident little cyclists.
The energy at the start is so fun. A live band plays at the Metro Plaza to get everyone pumped up, and the kids go wild for it. My daughter was dancing on her bike before the ride even started. At the finish, there are Woom Bikes giveaways, so stick around for that. One thing to know: registration is free on Eventbrite, but it fills up fast. Do not wait until the week of the event to sign up or you will be kicking yourself. Bring your own bike, bring your own helmet (helmets are required), and get ready for a morning your kid will not stop talking about.

Parent Tips π‘
- Register Early: Sign up on Eventbrite as soon as registration opens. This event fills up quickly and spots do not last long.
- Bring Your Own Gear: You will need to bring your own bike and helmet. Helmets are required for all riders, no exceptions.
- Choose Your Route: The 0.5-mile route is ideal for balance bike riders and younger kids. The 1.3-mile route works well for kids on pedal bikes with training wheels.
- Arrive Early: Get there 15 to 20 minutes before the 10:30 AM start for check-in. It also gives the kids time to warm up and enjoy the live band.
- Bring Water: Pack a water bottle for after the ride. The kids will be thirsty and excited, and you will want something on hand.
