Cox Farms: Smokin' Saturdays BBQ
If you haven't been to Cox Farms on a Saturday morning in the summer, you're missing out. Every Saturday from June through early September, they fire up the smoker and the whole property smells like wood-fired BBQ by the time you pull into the parking lot. We showed up around 11:30 on a Saturday a couple weeks ago and the line for food was already building, but it moved fast.
The BBQ itself is exactly what you'd want. Pulled pork, ribs, brisket, all smoked right there on the farm. They also have fresh lemonade made with local ingredients and milkshakes that my kids would not stop talking about for three days straight. The portions are generous and the prices are fair for what you get. We grabbed a couple plates, some lemonade, and found a spot at one of the picnic tables in the shade.
What makes this different from just going to a BBQ restaurant is everything else around it. The kids can run around the farm while you eat. There's the summer market happening at the same time, so you can browse produce, local honey, baked goods, and flowers while the kids play. It honestly turned into a full morning for us. We got there at 11 and didn't leave until almost 2pm because the kids were having such a good time just being outside on the farm.
The vibe is very relaxed. Families spread out on the grass, kids run between the play areas, and nobody is in a rush. It's the kind of Saturday morning that reminds you why you moved out to this part of Virginia in the first place. If you're looking for something low-key that doesn't require tickets, reservations, or planning, this is it. Just show up, eat some great BBQ, let the kids burn off energy, and head home happy. We've gone three times already this summer and it hasn't gotten old.

Getting There πΊοΈ
Parent Tips π‘
- Get there by 11am. The BBQ sells out on popular weekends. Earlier is better if you want the full menu.
- Bring cash just in case. They accept cards but the line moves faster if you have cash ready.
- Wear sunscreen and hats. Some seating is shaded, but the kids will be running around in full sun.
- Check out the summer market too. It runs at the same time and has great local produce, honey, and baked goods.
- Pack wet wipes. BBQ with kids means sticky hands and faces. You'll thank yourself later.
- Address: 15621 Braddock Rd, Centreville, VA 20120
