DC Bike Ride 2026
Twenty miles of DC streets closed to cars, which is the entire point. The route starts at 12th and Constitution, loops past the monuments and through parts of the city you would never ride on a normal Saturday, and finishes on Pennsylvania Avenue with a festival at the end. This is the 10th year. It is not a race and nobody is timing you.
The family math is better than you would expect. Kids 3 to 7 ride free with a paying adult, and riders 8 to 17 get a youth pass at half price. Twenty miles is a lot for a small child on their own bike, so most families with little kids use a trailer, a tag-along, or a cargo setup. There are places to peel off if you have had enough, which is worth knowing before you commit. The Finish Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue is the part kids actually remember: music, food, and a lot of people in a good mood.

Parent Tips 💡
- Register before it sells out. Ride passes are capped and the last few years have closed early. Buy once you know you are going.
- Use a trailer or tag-along for kids under 8. Twenty miles is long. Even strong 6-year-olds fade around mile eight.
- Pack more water and snacks than you think. There are rest stops, but they get busy and the gap between them feels long with a tired kid.
- Know your bail-out points. Look at the route map ahead of time and pick a spot where you can exit early without backtracking.
- Sunscreen at 7:30am. You will be out in open sun on the Mall for hours with almost no shade.
