A Puppet Show, Crafts and Swedish Fika on the Waterfront
The Embassy of Sweden is opening the House of Sweden on the Georgetown waterfront for a free Family Day on Saturday, October 10, from 10 to 2. Embassy events are an easy way to show kids a little of another country without getting on a plane, and this one is planned around them.
The main event is a 30-minute puppet show, Tillie the Terrible Swede, about Tillie Anderson, a Swedish immigrant who became a champion cyclist. It plays at 11 and again at 1, and it's best for ages 4 to 10. Around the shows there are crafts, story time, family films and Swedish fika, which is basically coffee and something sweet.
It's free, but you need to reserve a spot on Eventbrite, so do that before Saturday. If you want to make a Georgetown weekend of it, Canal Day is on Sunday, a short walk away on the C&O Canal. And the waterfront park out front is a good place to let everyone run after sitting through a show.
