Eighty-eight years is a long time to keep doing anything, and Gaithersburg has kept doing this: a Labor Day morning parade with marching bands, community groups, antique cars, and the kind of local pride that makes a kid ask why everyone is waving. It runs 10am to noon around the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, and it costs nothing.

This is the low-effort, high-payoff option for Labor Day Monday. It is short enough that nobody melts down, it starts at a civilized hour, and the Gaithersburg Community Museum and Olde Towne Plaza run extra activities the same morning if you want to stretch it into a half day. Bring a bag for the candy, because there is always candy.
