Kids Bowl Free 2026
If you haven't heard of Kids Bowl Free yet, let me save your summer. This program has been running for years, and it's exactly what it sounds like. You register your kids at kidsbowlfree.com (takes about two minutes), pick a participating bowling alley near you, and your kids get two free games every single day, all summer long. No strings attached.
The only cost is shoe rental, which runs about $3 to $5 per person at most places. If your family bowls a lot, it's worth picking up a pair of bowling shoes for each kid. They pay for themselves after a couple of visits.
We've been using Kids Bowl Free as our go-to backup plan for hot days and rainy afternoons since our oldest was three. There are participating locations all across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, so chances are there's one close to you. Just check the website to find yours, because not every bowling alley is part of the program.
One thing I've learned: weekday mornings are the sweet spot. Weekend afternoons get packed, and you might end up waiting for a lane. If you can swing a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, you'll practically have the place to yourselves.
Even little ones can play. Most locations have bumper lanes and lightweight balls, so toddlers can roll one down the lane and feel like pros. My two-year-old had the time of her life just watching the pins fall over.
A few practical notes. Some families bring their own snacks since bowling alley food adds up fast. Others treat it as a full outing and grab pizza at the snack bar. Either way works. This is one of those summer programs that sounds too good to be true, but it really is just free bowling for kids. Sign up early so your kids are ready to go when summer starts.
