34 Farms Open Their Gates This Weekend
Twice a year, Loudoun County farms open to the public for a free weekend, and the fall tour is this Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18, from 10 to 4. This year there are 34 stops: farms, vineyards, nurseries and other farm businesses all over the county. You don't need tickets, and every stop is open rain or shine.
Don't try to see everything. Pick three or four stops near each other and take your time. The county's digital map lets you put your stops in order, and the icons show which ones have bathrooms, food for sale and activities that cost money. Visiting is free, but some farms charge for food, drinks or special activities.
If you're going with little kids, the animal farms are the ones to plan around. I put six of them below, all on this year's official list. Brookfield Dairy has a milking demo at 1:30 both days, and the goats at Danny's Dream Acres are only out from 10 to noon, so those two set the schedule for the rest of the day.

Parent Tips 💡
- Map your route first. The organizer's themed lists aren't driving routes. Use the digital map to put your stops in order.
- Plan around the set times. The Brookfield milking demo is at 1:30, and the goats at Danny's Dream Acres are out only from 10 to noon.
- Check the icons before you drive. The map shows which stops have public bathrooms, food for sale and activities with a fee.
- Ask before bringing the dog. Only about half the stops are marked pet-friendly, and Double 8 asks visitors to leave dogs at home because of its working dogs.
- Scan the QR code. Check in at any stop to enter a drawing for one of two VIP gift packages.
- Check the day of. The organizer says plans on the farm can change daily, so look at the map again Saturday morning.
