If you're looking for a low-key summer evening with the family, the Films in the Park series at Mosaic District is one of our favorites. Every Thursday, they set up a big screen on the lawn at Strawberry Park and play a family-friendly movie once the sun goes down. The whole setup is simple: bring a blanket or some low chairs, find a spot on the grass, and settle in. We like to get there around 7pm because the good spots fill up fast, and it gives the kids time to run around and burn off some energy before the movie starts.

What makes this one really nice is everything around it. Mosaic District has plenty of restaurants, so we usually grab dinner first and then walk over to the park. It saves us from packing a full picnic, though plenty of families do bring their own snacks and food. The area is clean, well-lit, and feels safe even after dark.

Getting there is straightforward. Mosaic is right off I-66, and you can take the Gallows Road exit. There are parking garages on site that are free for the first two hours. If you want to skip the parking situation entirely, the Dunn Loring Metro station on the Orange Line is about a 10-minute walk away, which is honestly the easier option on busy nights. One thing to keep in mind: bring bug spray. Once the sun sets and the movie gets going, the mosquitoes come out. Other than that, it's a really relaxed evening. The movies are always kid-appropriate, and the atmosphere is just families hanging out together on a summer night. Hard to beat that.
