Asian American Book Fair
This is one of those events that's easy to overlook but really worth your time. The National Museum of Asian Art is hosting a book fair as part of AANHPI Heritage Month, and it's geared toward families. Children's book authors will be there doing readings and signings, so your kids can actually meet the people who wrote the stories they're reading at home or in school. It's a small, personal setting, which means kids get real interaction with the authors instead of being lost in a huge crowd.
After the readings, you can wander the museum together. It's free to enter and genuinely beautiful, with galleries that even younger kids seem to enjoy. The whole thing makes for a relaxed Friday outing that doesn't cost anything and gets your kids excited about books. Hard to beat that.
