Burnside Farms Tulip Festival
Burnside Farms has 1.5 million tulips spread across 8 acres in Nokesville, Virginia. This is a big spring tradition in the DMV, and it's the last year the festival will run (worth noting for future planning). The fields are perfect for photos, and there's plenty more than just standing in the rows.
You get pedal karts to ride through the fields, a giant jump pad for bouncing, farm animals to pet, and food trucks. It works for toddlers who want to run around and for older kids who want to race the pedal karts. Expect muddy paths (bring boots), kids staying until 6pm (longer than usual spring outings), and a genuinely fun family morning or afternoon.

Parent Tips 💡
- Weekday mornings are much quieter: Go between 9:30am-noon on a weekday if you can swing it. Weekend mornings fill up fast.
- Wear boots or sturdy shoes: The fields are muddy. Bring a change of clothes for toddlers.
- Bring cash for pedal karts and food: Bring $10-20 cash for add-ons. Some places take cards, but don't count on it.
- Kids under 5 are free: Bring the whole family without extra tickets for little ones.
- Buy tickets online: Sell out on nice weekends. Advance purchase saves a few dollars and guarantees entry.
- Pack water and sunscreen: No shade on 8 acres. April sun is stronger than you'd think.
- Plan 2–3 hours: That's how long kids stay engaged with pedal karts, jumping, animals, and exploring the tulip fields.
