Clarendon Day is Arlington's biggest street festival. Wilson Boulevard shuts down around the Clarendon Metro and roughly 20,000 people turn up for live music, food from neighborhood restaurants, local makers, community groups, and a KidZone set up for the under-10 crowd. Entry is free, and it is the kind of festival where you can show up with zero plan and still fill an afternoon.

The logistics are the easy part, because the festival wraps around the Clarendon Metro exit. Ride the Orange or Silver Line in, come up the escalator, and you are standing in it. With toddlers, come at 11am when it opens: KidZone lines are short, the bands are just warming up, and you will beat the crowd that builds after 1pm.

Parent Tips 💡

• ✓Take the train: Wilson Boulevard closes and parking becomes a chore. The festival sits on top of the Metro station, which almost never happens. Use it.
• ✓Arrive at 11am with little kids: The first two hours are the calm ones. KidZone lines grow through the afternoon, and by 3pm you are shuffling through a crowd.
• ✓Pick a meeting spot with bigger kids: It gets packed, and cell service can lag with 20,000 people in a few blocks. The Metro entrance canopy is an easy landmark.
• ✓Plan for sun: Late September can still hit 80 degrees, and a closed boulevard has less shade than you would think. Hats and a water bottle earn their keep.
• ✓Strollers do best before 2pm: Early on the street is wide open. Once the afternoon crowd arrives, a carrier is easier for the under-2 set.
• ✓Eat from the festival booths: Clarendon's restaurants set up outside, so this is a decent way to sample a few places without booking a table with a toddler.
