One Saturday a year, H Street NE closes to cars and turns into a mile-long block party. The 2026 H Street Festival runs noon to 7pm with around 15 stages of music, dance, and performance, a couple hundred vendors and exhibitors, food from the neighborhood's restaurants, and family activities scattered along the corridor. Entry is free, and the people-watching is half the fun.

The festival draws crowds well into the six figures over the day, so timing matters with kids. Come at noon when it opens: you can still move a stroller, performers are warming up, and food lines are short. By 3 or 4pm the middle blocks get shoulder-to-shoulder. The street closure usually pauses the DC Streetcar for the day, so the reliable route is Metro to Union Station and a 10–15 minute walk to the festival's western end.
