George's World, Shrunk to Kid Size

The National Children's Museum's big summer exhibit drops kids straight into Curious George's world, rebuilt at their scale. Let's Get Curious runs through September 6 and it's aimed squarely at ages 3 to 7: an apartment building with working pulleys to haul things up and down, a produce stand stocked with play food to weigh, count, and sort, a construction zone, a mini golf setup that quietly teaches angles and physics, a farm with wind-powered art, and George's rocket for the grand finale. Every station is hands-on. Nothing is behind glass. That's the whole point, and it's why this age group walks out asking to go back in.

The exhibit is included with regular museum admission, which is $18.95 per person (babies under 1 are free), and entry is timed, so book online before you go rather than gambling at the door. It's inside the museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a short walk from Metro Center and Federal Triangle, and it's fully air conditioned, which in a DC July is half the sales pitch. Once the George section is conquered, the museum's other floors, including the climbing structure and the Dream Machine slide, are part of the same ticket, so plan on two to three hours total.
