DC Dragon Boat Festival
If your kids have never seen dragon boat racing, Georgetown Waterfront Park is about to fix that. Teams paddle these long, colorful boats down the Potomac while drummers keep time at the front of each vessel. It's loud, exciting, and my kids were glued to the railing the entire time we went last year. Between races there's plenty to do along the waterfront, including cultural performances, lion dances, and martial arts demonstrations on the main stage.
The food vendor area is solid. You'll find dumplings, bao buns, bubble tea, and plenty of other options so everyone in the family can pick something different. There's a kids activity zone with crafts and games that kept our younger ones busy when they needed a break from watching the races. The whole park has a festival energy that feels genuinely fun and not overly commercial. We packed a blanket and grabbed a spot near the water, and the kids ran back and forth between the races and the activity area all afternoon.

Getting There 🗺️
Parent Tips 💡
- Bring sunscreen and hats. The waterfront has limited shade and you'll be out in the sun most of the day.
- Get there early for a good viewing spot. The best spots along the railing go fast once races start.
- Bring cash for some vendors. Most take cards, but a few food stalls are cash only.
- Pack a blanket or camp chairs. There's grass space to sit and watch races from a slight distance with more room for kids to move around.
- The kids activity zone is usually near the main stage, so you can keep an eye on younger ones while watching performances.
- Restrooms are available at the park, but lines can get long. Hit them before the main races start.
