Saint Sophia Greek Festival
This is one of those DC traditions that people mark on their calendars every year. The Saint Sophia Cathedral in Glover Park puts on a full Greek festival with fresh-made food, pastries, live music, and traditional dance performances. The pastries alone are worth the trip. We go specifically for the loukoumades, which are these warm honey puffs that the kids go through at an alarming pace. The spanakopita is also excellent. Beyond the food, there are vendors selling handmade jewelry and icons, and the cathedral tours are surprisingly interesting even for kids. The building is beautiful inside. Come hungry and plan to eat a lot.
