DC State Fair 2026
The DC State Fair squeezes a real state fair into one Sunday downtown, no livestock barns required. The heart of it is the contests: DC gardeners, bakers, and makers compete in more than 50 categories, from giant vegetables and homegrown tomatoes to pies, pickles, and honey, with winners announced from the stage starting around 12:15pm. Around the contest tables you get 50-plus local vendors, kids' activities, and live music all day. This year's lineup includes SOROCHE and jazz from Elijah Jamal Balbed.
For 2026 the fair sets up at Anthem Row on K Street NW, an easy Metro trip with two stations within a few blocks. Entry is free, it runs 11am to 6pm rain or shine, and 90 minutes is about right with kids: wander the entries, catch a set of music, let the kids try the activity tables, and grab lunch from a vendor on the way out.

Parent Tips 💡
- Go in the first two hours: 11am to 1pm is the calmest window, and you'll catch the contest winner announcements starting around 12:15pm. Kids get a kick out of the giant vegetables laid out for judging.
- It's an outdoor plaza with limited shade: hats, sunscreen, and water bottles. Early September in DC still runs hot.
- Make it your lunch plan: entry is free, so put the budget toward the local food vendors and graze your way through.
- Pair it with a nearby stop: Chinatown restaurants and the National Portrait Gallery are about a 10-minute walk if the kids still have gas afterward.
- Take Metro over driving: two stations are within a few blocks, and Sunday street parking downtown disappears fast around events.
- Rain or shine means rain or shine: the fair runs either way, so pack a light layer and go anyway. Crowds thin out when it drizzles.
