Maryland Day at UMD
Maryland Day is the University of Maryland's annual open house, and with over 400 free activities packed into one Saturday, it's honestly one of the best-kept secrets for DMV families. The campus transforms into five themed "Learning Neighborhoods" — Ag Day Avenue (farm animals, gardening), Terp Town Center (campus tours, food), Art & Design Place (art workshops, performances), Science & Tech Way (labs, robotics, coding), and Sports & Rec Row (mini games, athlete meet-and-greets). Kids get to touch, build, and try everything. It's like a giant science fair meets county fair meets college football Saturday — and it's all free. The 28th edition promises to be the biggest yet.

Getting There 🗺️
Parent Tips 💡
- The campus is huge — pick 2-3 neighborhoods to focus on instead of trying to see everything.
- Science & Tech Way is the most popular with kids — go there first before lines build up.
- Ag Day Avenue has real farm animals and is a hit with toddlers and younger kids.
- The event runs rain or shine. Bring layers and an umbrella just in case.
- Free parking fills up — arrive before 10:30am or take the Metro. The Green/Yellow Line stop is right there.
- Bring a wagon or stroller — you'll be walking a lot across campus.
