Give Your Jack-o'-Lantern One Last Ride
Here's what to do with the jack-o'-lantern that's starting to sag on the porch. Great Country Farms in Bluemont holds Pumpkin Chunkin' on Sunday, November 1, Monday, November 2, and Tuesday, November 3, from 10 to 4, and the whole point is smashing pumpkins.
Bring your old pumpkin and pick how it goes out. You can drop it down the Silo Drop, send it flying on the Zip Wire Sploosh, or hand it over for the Pumpkin Drop, where pumpkins fall from a 40-foot lift. On Sunday the big drop is at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30, and on Monday and Tuesday it's at 12:30. There's marshmallow roasting from 11 to 4 too. The smashed pumpkins go to the farm's pigs and cows, and the rest gets composted.
Tickets are $12 for kids and $14 for adults if you buy ahead, plus a $1 fee, or $16 a person at the gate for everyone 3 and up. Buying online saves a few dollars each, which adds up for a family of four. It's about an hour from the Beltway, so pack snacks for the drive.

- Time it to a drop. On Sunday the 40-foot drop is at 11:30, 1:30 and 3:30.
